All signs point to the first touchscreen BlackBerry Bold.

There’s not much more information available beyond the picture, but it’s certainly a relief to see an improvement over earlier touchscreen prototypes. And it’s even better to see RIM continuing to innovate, although it’s likely months before we see this—or the final version of it—in stores. With the BlackBerry Storm having had touchscreen capability for some time, it’s only natural to see that technology infiltrate other brands.

But what do all you BlackBerry enthusiasts think? Is this sacrilege, or progress?

The RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 features a sleeker design than its predecessor and adds a 3.5mm headphone jack, a responsive optical trackpad, and an extra-sharp display. The smartphone is fast and offers the full range of wireless options and robust messaging capabilities.

Though Web browsing is not its forte, the RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 is one of the most powerful and best messaging smartphones in AT&T’s lineup.

Anyone coming from the original BlackBerry Bold will immediately notice the design changes on the RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700. Sleeker and sexier, RIM did a really nice job of making the smartphone smaller without sacrificing too much in usability. Plus, you get the new optical trackpad, some minor user interface enhancements, and an extra-sharp, 480×360-pixel resolution display. For more information about the smartphone’s design, please read our full review of the T-Mobile RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 since the two models are nearly identical in this department.
