The Nokia 6600 was undoubtedly one of Nokia’s most popular smartphones. Ever since it was launched back in 2004, it has sold millions of units and even now, we come across people using the phone, albeit as a backup phone.
Today the successor to the 6600 slide officially slips into view. Bearing a subtle name change, the new Nokia 6600i slide brings with it a new wardrobe and some upgraded features, the most significant being a performance perk in the photography stakes.

Tucked inside its new brushed steel shell, the Nokia 6600i slide is toting an upgraded 5 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash. Boasting 3G talents, this means you’ll be able to share your shots on the move with little fuss.
The new 6600i features a handsome hidden external display, with the outer face equipped with touch technology, enabling you to simply tap it to bring the external screen to life or snooze alerts and silence or reject incoming calls. It comes with a 1GB microSD card tucked in the box, and has the capability to stomach up to 16GB should you wish to feast on a fatter diet of music, movies, games and apps on the go
This, as it turns out, it might just be another S40 phone from the company with nothing revolutionary to offer. Nokia could have done better than this, at least by not naming it after the 6600, which inspite of having been termed an “oyster egg” by detractors during its heydays, was a kick-ass phone.
It will be made available in select markets in Q3 2009 at an expected price of Rs. 13,000.
Next Generation phone from NOKIA – Nokia E97 Envelop Concept Phone

Here’s a slick bit of design for a multi-part Nokia E97 device, dubbed the Envelop for its ability to remove the screen from the main body. To what end? Well, one part of the image shows someone passing off the screen to someone else to transfer 4/8 GB of files through a small contact at the bottom-right. When plugged into a stand, the screen could also act as a photo album, or hey, maybe even a video viewer.
The holster even has a spot for a second screen! The keys reconfigure based on orientation, which is something we’re already starting to see in the real world. Removeable parts aren’t that foreign of an idea either – just look at the LG Versa. Neat idea overall, but the big question is: how long before we start seeing phones like this? A year? Three? Five?
This Nokia E97 NOKIA Envelop Concept Phone definitely looks slick but we’re not sure how practical it would actually be. The tear-off LCD screen component would definitely be fragile and a breakage hazard. Still, it looks bad-ass enough for us to wish that Nokia actually did think outside the box like this.
Designed by 23 year-old Paris student Fabien Nauroy, the Nokia E97 NOKIA Envelop Concept Phone is another concept we would love to see on the shelves but alas, we fear that it is never to be. Check out the specs and details of the handset below.
