DARPA shows off its remote-controlled cyborg beetles
September 26th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
Yep. You read that right: cyborg beetles. Remote controlled ones, no less. It’s the work of a team of puppet masters over at UC Berkley, who have successfully wired up beetles with electrodes that allow them to be controlled remotely.
“We demonstrated the remote control of insects in free flight via an implantable radioequipped miniature neural stimulating system,” the team reported...KEF wireless subwoofer looks like a spaceship
September 26th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
It’s hardly the first wireless subwoofer, but KEF’s HTB2SE-W is possibly the coolest-looking sub we’ve seen. While the oblong shape, similar to B&W’s PV1, is sure to stand out in your listening room (we’ll leave you to ponder whether that’s a good thing), the 10-inch driver, driven by a 250-watt Class D amplifier, will certainly make itself heard.
The wireless...Brabus-Benz Viano Lounge, a high-tech palace on wheels
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
Sure, it looks like a silly box, but the 2010 Brabus Mercedes-Benz Viano Lounge hides a wonderland of crazy tech toys. It’s quite the list: a 32-inch “electrically deployed” LCD, Wi-Fi, an onboard network that connects computers to the TV and one another, a PlayStation 3, Dolby surround sound, Nespresso machine and external cameras that can be viewed on the main screen.

September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
The Pink Project by Microsoft has been under some wraps for a while but then, for how long can you keep the mice from the owl on a dark night? So we have some smart pictures from the wise ones who managed to mine them out. The Pink Phone, which is supposed to be Microsoft’s next big phone venture is out to take the industry by surprise (but no more). Strangely (and luckily), this phone isn’t...NTT DoCoMo develops touch screen phone made from recycled wood
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
NTT DoCoMo has developed a mobile phone prototype made with the surplus wood of trees culled during thinning operations to maintain healthy forests. The prototype was created in collaboration with Sharp Corporation, Olympus Corporation and more trees, a reforestation project founded by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and others. The authentic cypress wood body of the prototype, which is named Touch Wood,...Artcoustic picture frame speakers for the visual audiophile
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
The rage to own a super slim digital LCD is dampened when you realize the fact the speakers that come with them aren’t really at par with the visuals you see on screen. Conventional speakers dampen the aesthetics of the modern interiors, and it doesn’t help that many music lovers are conditioned to think that great speakers must come large wooden boxes. ARTCOUSTIC loudspeakers are engineered...Mbed twitter talking fish reads your tweets for you
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
From the twittering baby in the womb to the twitter talking fish seems the twitter community is all geared up for world domination. Here’s another solution for the twitter addicts among you, instead of staring at your screen all day its best if your fish read it out to you as and when they come. Dan Ros spent all his free time rigging a novelty fish item into a tail flapping lip moving twitter...Philips Xenium K700 a PMP / Mobile phone
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
As one would expect from the entertainment giants that they are, Philips has added a touch of their brilliant entertainment features to the Xenium K700. It looks a lot like a MP4 player rather than a phone with the sexy 2.9 inch TFT touch screen taking up a major portion of the phone. It’s also got a 3.2 megapixel camera, 40 MB internal memory with microSD expansion to 8 GB, Bluetooth, USB,...Samsung YEPP-M1 will have an AMOLED display
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
Samsung are all set to unleash their later media player called the YEPP-M1. So what’s the big deal? These guys do this kind of thing every now and then. Well, the catch is that this PMP will have a 3.3 inch AMOLED and will support many formats like MPEG4, Xvid, WMV and many more. It will also have FM, stereo playback from speakers, T-DMB technology and Samsung’s very own DNSe 3.0 technology....JVC Picsio GC-FM 1 camcorder has HD support
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
Thanks to the great brainwave that hit JVC hard enough to come out with a design like that of the Picsio GC-FM. The design is totally cool and off-bling. Away from the looks, it’s a total winner with an 8-megapixel shooter and support for HD video capture. A pity is the missing internal memory. It directly records onto the SDHC card. No one says no to something so cool and flash that’s...Arider: Hands-free iPhone app for cyclists
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
Well it isn’t fair if you suffer from the loss of a cool digital navigation system just because you ride a bicycle and not an over-polluting car. So we have this cool iPhone application that attaches to your helmet with the help of a mount and is connected to an eyepiece that displays the navigation graphics. Cool, huh?
The application’s called Arider and is developed by Tokyo based...Apple geared up to include Blu-ray for new iMacs
September 25th, 2009 by Dennis Hager
Apple is all set to start a new line of its iMac desktops which will integrate a Blu-ray player for high definition media lovers. Apple has so far stayed away from the media war between the two competing formats, and even though it’s been little over a year since the war has been won by Blu-ray, the format is still ignored by Apple. The Apple netbook Air didn’t feature any optical drive,...Archos palm top 9 has Windows 7
