Medical trade center narrows list of potential Nashville office space
Jun 22nd
One of three downtown Nashville buildings could be home to a new medical trade center planned by a Dallas-based company, providing a sizeable lease that could reduce office vacancy in the city’s central business district by up to 25 percent.
Market Center Management Co. is talking to owners or leasing agents for The Pinnacle at Symphony Place, a new building located south of Broadway, the AT&T Tower (nicknamed the Batman building) and Regions Center. The group is seeking up to 300,000 square feet of space for permanent showrooms for suppliers of health-care products and services, said Jeff Haynes, a real estate consultant to the project.
“The first choice is downtown,” Haynes said, adding that another possibility would be to spread the center out over several buildings around Nashville International Airport.
Market Center Management also is seeking to use space in the existing and proposed Nashville Convention Center for health-care trade shows, seminars and continuing education programs that it hopes to bring to town, said Bill Winsor, its chief executive.
“I can’t think of a better way for him to test his concept than with us in that building,” said Butch Spyridon, president of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau, which handles sales and marketing of the convention center. “I think they complement each other in this case. I’m looking forward to testing the theory.”
Last month, Market Center Management revealed plans for what it said eventually would be 1.5 million square feet of year-round space to showcase medical gadgets and health-care technology. Winsor said the first phase of 250,000 to 300,000 square feet should open by next summer, adding that plans for subsequent phases are being finalized. He expects the trade center to create 1,000 jobs plus generate revenues for the city through spending by business tourists that would participate in the shows.
Market Center Management’s pursuit of a relationship with the existing Nashville Convention Center also leaves open the possibility that it could pursue that location after the replacement Music City Center is built down the road. “We’re going to keep ourselves open to all options,” Winsor said.

Smart phone makes a smart physician?
Jun 22nd
In the past, some physicians have been resistant to computer-based medical technology because they were either unfamiliar with it, thought it was too time-consuming or felt it might chain them to a desk. But medical technology on the mobile phone has changed many physicians’ minds.
The AMA’s news site, amednews.com, reports that that 64% of doctors are using smartphones: iPhones, BlackBerrys, Treos and other hand-held devices with voice, wireless Internet access and powerful applications that turn the cell phone into a mobile computer.
An article in mobilehealthnews reports that in November of 2008 a medical student lobbied Apple to create a “medical” category for applications in the AppStore that would include applications for physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers. The medical category is now the third-fastest growing type of application for the iPhone.
According to Manhattan Research, some of the most widely used mobile applications for physician jobs are drug and clinical references, as well as clinical tools such as dosage calculators. The Diffusion Group conducted a study two years ago which concluded that mobile devices are unlikely to replace desktop systems entirely, but they can help physicians become more efficient by bringing applications to the point of care. Mobile devices also provide an opportunity for more data feedback from patients, both anecdotal and from medical monitoring devices. For example, a Bluetooth-enabled blood glucose monitor synchs up to a diabetes management application running on the iPhone.
While support for medical accessories is nothing new, an application called AirStrip is promising much more with its AirStrip CC (Critical Care) app. A demonstration showed that the app can take live sensor data and feed it to the iPhone over the Internet in real-time, giving doctors access to data when they’re not at the hospital. The touchscreen lets physicians measure statistics, like the distance between unusual heartbeats, by tapping two points.
In more conventional applications, smart phones are used as voice, alarm, text and paging devices for medical staff.
Interestingly some healthcare reform advocates have switched their focus from pushing desktop-based medical systems and are now advocating mobile-only. Though mobile systems offer a compelling upside of speeding up research and care for medical doctor jobs, mobile devices also present an opportunity for information overload. Even the first physicians who purchased plain-old cell phones quickly realized they were never really “out of the office.” We can only imagine what it will mean when an EKG can be viewed over the phone in real time.

Google Boosting iGoogle For Android And iPhone
Jun 14th
Today Google rolled out a new version of its iGoogle page for the Android and iPhone platforms. New features include the ability to access more of your tabs and improved gadget support for interacting with your content.
You might be fooled into thinking that Google only develops new and interesting mobile products for the iPhone and Android. While it’s true that they seem to get the lion’s share of attention, it’s for good reason. Their able browsers give Google a lot of room to tinker. The latest tinkering brings new functionality to iGoogle.
According to Google the new version is faster (sometimes I wonder if that phrase “appears” in every Google press release just for the heck of it). This isn’t necessarily a function of speedier delivery of Web pages. Rather, it has more to do with the way you navigate through iGoogle.
Next up is the new tabbed view. This lines up your content in a way that is easy to rifle through quickly to find exactly what you want.
iGoogle now supports more gadgets, though Google is sure to point out that those gadgets requiring Flash still won’t work.
Dan Zivkovic and Zhen Wang, Software Engineers, Google mobile team, write, “One of our favorite new features is the in-line display of articles for feed-based gadgets. That means you can read article summaries without leaving the page. You can also rearrange gadget order or keep your favorite gadgets open for your next visit. None of these changes will mess up the layout of gadgets on your desktop computer, so feel free to play around and tune your mobile experience. ”
I took the new version for a quick spin this morning. You have to actively select the “try the new mobile iGoogle” link to see it. I have to say, it definitely feels more organized and less chaotic. I can’t say I experienced any great improvements in page loads or anything, but the more compact and intuitive navigation lends itself to faster use.

Jun 11th
Michael Czysz and the MotoCzysz team for the first time will push out from behind secured doors the Worlds first Digital Superbike. Apple’s iPhone is in green limelight again and this time it is playing the role of cherry-on-the-icing as it is seen on the MotoCzysz E1pc

However not much is revealed about the E1pc, except for the obvious iPhone on the dashboard. It comes loaded with 10 battery packs and three motors to participate and hopefully win in world’s first zero emissions road race.

Electric Bikes Design in Modern World – Electric Cherry a bike or a bicycle?
Jun 4th
Environment friendly gadgets and machines are the in thing these days, and they definitely are the need of the hour. With so many different concepts and designs coming up, it is definitely not easy to decide which one is the best of the lot, but its worth trying out these cool gadgets and machines, simply because they are so eco-friendly such as electric scooters or the GM Segway car.
While a wide range of electric cars are available in the market, we have the option of two-three wheelers too these days, especially considering great features like compactness, weightlessness, and the most important feature being – they are great space savers.
Cherry is part of the new age transportation machines and electric bikes; its design inspired by the fruit! It gives you a reason to stop worrying about parking space, fuel or battery, or about re-painting your old car. Its a 40kg, carbon-fibre plastic body machine designed to use vehicle efficiency at its best. An enhancement though would be avoiding the use of plastic completely in the body. Nevertheless, be is the torque, speed, ease of steering and grip, performance, motor or maintenance, Cherry has mastered it all. Not to mention it looks completely like a new-age machine.
The concept of Electric bikes and cars has fast traveled the journey between the primitive low-functionality prototypes to present extra-engineered retail units. Folding bikes aren’t a bizarre concept anymore; it’s just what extra frills the designer has to offer. Truong Minh Nhat, a Saigon student designed Capella, the lightweight electric bike. The foldable structure is compact and intends to equip the user to battle away with the daily traffic issues. Where finding space in concrete jungles on cities is next to finding treasure, this bike can be folded into an easy-to-carry structure. The bike has its wheels, chain and chain-ring bolt folded into the body. The bike can vroom with a speed 30 kilometers per hour with a battery that will provide juice for 12 kilometers on a single charge. The industrial design student has well taken care of the style department and looks forward to reduce the weight of the bike to 10 kilograms. The intellectual property guys have also showed the green signal to this foldable bike. Short distance travel will surely become more green and stylish with such bikes.
